March 20 is annual World Oral Health Day. This month and day is a great way to remind everyone of this importance of oral health, proper oral hygiene, and regular dental visits. It’s the largest campaign on oral health with dentists and patients making pledges from everywhere in the world.
Oral Health Promise
It is important to commit yourself to a healthy mouth because it leads to a healthy body. Your mouth welcomes the food you eat into your body and the food you eat provides the energy and resources for optimal function of your organ and immune systems.
Here’s some suggestions to consider for you pledge for World Oral Health Day:
- Pledge to brush twice every day and floss every day. This way you will effectively remove plaque and food particles from your teeth, preventing the buildup of bacteria that can lead to cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.
- Pledge to change your toothbrush every three months. A tattered toothbrush can no longer do its job properly.
- Pledge to visit the dentist twice every year for a cleaning and check-up. Regular visits will help you maintain healthy teeth and gums, and prevent dental problems from becoming serious.
- Pledge to make healthy food choices. For example, fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins A and C give you strong gums and teeth, and also boosts your immunity and eye and skin health. Eating good food makes you look and feel good.
- Pledge to not eat snacks after you brush your teeth at night!. You’ll avoid extra calories right before your body rests at night and, unless you brush again, your will go to bed with food particles around your teeth that will feed the cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth.
