Throbbing, constant pain that won't respond to over-the-counter medication may indicate infection or abscess. Call right away — same-day relief is usually possible.
Time matters. A knocked-out adult tooth can sometimes be re-implanted within 30–60 minutes. Pick it up by the crown (not the root), rinse gently, and call us en route.
A broken tooth exposes nerves and can worsen quickly. Bring any pieces you can find. Most chips can be repaired the same day with bonding or a crown.
A lost crown or filling leaves the tooth vulnerable. We can usually re-seat or replace the same day, preventing further damage and pain.
A swollen, painful bump on the gum is a sign of infection. Untreated dental abscesses can become serious. Same-day antibiotic prescription and treatment plan.
A poking or broken wire can cut your cheek. We can clip, replace, or temporarily cap the wire same-day so you're comfortable until ortho can fully repair.
Persistent bleeding after extraction, injury, or unknown cause. Apply gauze with firm pressure for 20 minutes and call us. If bleeding won't stop, go to the ER.
Cuts to the tongue, lip, or cheek often look worse than they are but may need stitches. Rinse gently with warm water, apply pressure, and call.
A tooth that's loose, shifted, or pushed in/out from a fall or sports impact needs evaluation today — even if pain is mild. Earlier intervention saves the tooth.
Calling first lets us prep the chair, your file, and any medication you'll need. We'll guide you on first-aid steps over the phone.
Take ibuprofen (400–600 mg) if you can. Hold a cold compress to the outside of your cheek in 20-minute intervals to reduce swelling.
For a knocked-out tooth: hold it by the crown, rinse gently with water (no scrubbing), and place in milk or saline. For chips: bring the pieces in a clean container.
For bleeding: bite firmly on a gauze pad or clean cloth for 20 minutes without releasing. Avoid spitting or rinsing aggressively.
Our office hours are Mon–Fri 9a–6p and Sat 8a–3p. For dental emergencies outside those hours, leave a voicemail with your name and what's happening — Dr. Soto checks the emergency line nightly and on Sundays. If it's a true medical emergency (uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, head trauma), please call 911 or go to the nearest ER immediately.
When you call our emergency line, Dr. Soto herself is on the other end — not a call center. 25+ years of bilingual care, with patients she's known since the late '90s.
Most dental emergencies get worse with time — and easier (and cheaper) to fix the sooner we see you.
